latest version of drakkar

Post by Doro »

I downloaded and installed this latest exe (Lobby ver 1.35rc2).
Ran up program and exited ok.
Second time I tried to run it up I got into Lobby OK, but had a "Memory Error" - tried to allocate -454761244.

So I decided it wasn't for me.

Downloaded version from main website (Lobby ver 1.34) - all well to start with . . .
Do you want to add macro "Assault"? etc for every disc I had.
Shut down the game and restarted only to find I had no "look", "attack" or any of my regular actions.
Looked to macro list, they are all <empty>.

Wiped contents of Crits forder with the same result.

Help please?

"Memory Error" - tried to allocate -454761244.
This can be fixed by running drakkar in "XP SP 2 Compatability" mode and as an "Administrator". This is because of Vista (which i just happen to know that you run).

And a big thank you to geeky Tnem, run as administrator did the trick (run as XP did not).

All's well that ends well.

I'm a bit confused by this. I have vista 64, thought I had caught all these wierdnesses.

Can anyone give me some more details on what they think the problem is?

Vista 32 Ultimate here.
Lobby starts OK.
Click the play button and graphics screen opens (all white) and then I get a simple error popup with "tried to allocate -454761244" and that's all.
No explanations or links to a more detailed log I'm afraid.

Can supply machine hardware if you like.

K guys i took the plunge and plopped down $200 bucks for a code signing certificate for vista.

Couple things:

1) Dont install it in your program files directory. If its installed there, please UNINSTALL, and re-install into c:\games
Program files is EMULATED under vista..

2) I'm making a new version of the software that doesnt write the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (a registry entry), this way it
should no longer require administrator access. (This and coupled with not installing in "program files"

Thanks

When I said they work a treat, what I meant to say was all the OLD macros worked a treat.

I am unable to create any NEW macros using (ctrl) or (alt) and another key.

eg a simple one line command macro to interface with an NPC;
"NPC do this" type command and hot key it to (ctrl)+"s"
All I get is the letter "s" in the command panel.

It is as if the (ctrl) or the (alt) keys are not being processed.
Tried the function keys too and they aren't working.

Any suggestions?

Please confirm that this is an issue.

I am unable to create any new macros here and for a healer this is quite a problem.

Have you tried turning off "User Account Control"? Installing to C:\games or another non-protected area should avoid UAC issues, but honestly UAC is the worst addition to windows ever, totally pointless, and causes all kinds of issues for many different applications - not just drak.

With UAC off and being on an administrator account I've never had any issues on vista regardless of where drak was installed.

I'm getting the same behavior with my new macros that use ctrl or alt. They just enter the character into the in-game chat/command line. I'm running 32bit XP.

The new frontend installs into the c:\games directory, instead of program files. On vista, program files is no longer a valid application installation
location (for non privileged apps).

Either change your installation directory, or re-install in c:\games, and the new version should work correctly (does on my vista box)

Even with it installed in games i still have to raise the privileges for drak to administrator to run it.

I HAVE installed it into C:\games (as per my posts above).

I think this is not an admin problem but a function problem (ctrl and alt are not being processed, in fact it seems they are both being ignored).

Uninstalling and reinstalling has no effect on the old macros or any new ones.

It looks like the way the latest FE handles macros causes issues with older versions of macro files. File sizes have shot up to 80 kb, from <10 previously.

Don't know if that specifically has to do with the new macro ctrl+alt issue though. I assume you are trying to make new macros, within old .crts files. Have you tried starting from scratch and making them?

Yea, I deleted my macro files for exactly that reason and the new ones are just as broken. The new system macros still work with ctrl/alt, but user defined ones don't.

I am having a problem similar to Doro's initial problem. My macros all still work but they say "<empty>" when you pass the cursor over them.
Also, occasionally when I log in, I cannot enter any commands. THe game kicks me out immediately. This includes typing commands, using macros, and also accessing the belt, sack, and pouches. It appears to be a totally random event, and at times it will work several times in a row with no problem. Other times I have to leave the game and come back later. Incidently, this situation does not occur with any characters in nork. I'm not sure if these two problems are related, but they seem to have started when I dl'ed the new FE.

I'm using windows XP

Was looking forward to some fancy new graphics so got the USR.rar file and put the resulting filles into Data.
Ended up with Lobby OK, but white screen when trying to run the game.

Back to old graphics for me then :(

I had the <empty> macro problem too. Tried everything and nothing worked.

I had a few problems with my laptop so I ended up just reformatting it, and when I installed KoD, the problem was gone.

I believe the problem may be related to leftover Windows registry entries that uninstalling the older version of Drak doesn't remove.

I went in and manually deleted all Drak references in the registry, and then I could make new macros, lo and behold.

See if that works!

Even better would be if the official Drakkar uninstaller took care of those too ;>

Spoke too soon again!

Macros are unchanged- cannot make any new ones that use alt or ctrl key combos.

I understand some of the 'F' keys aren't working either from other players.
