Cob Test Server?

Post by Yeti »

It has come to my attention that an idea was proposed for a cob test server, and no real details were known.... i demand more details, and in return i shall offer you money :p

Seriously though, first good idea i have heard in a while, and at a time where i have found myself with extra time in my hands, i would definately be willing to play on what i envision a cob test server could be :p

The only info I've heard or seen so far was posted by Brad in Game changes

Hope this helps.

I know it sounds like I'm in denial, but I'm not.

As usual, we could most likely expect to see this be available only to guild hall subscribers, but I would like to see it available to anyone on the silver plan, so that there will be many people playing there if they want to.

I have a feeling if only available to guild hall subscribers, we would see fewer players actually there, I think this will bring an opportunity to newer players who were not there to experience cobrahn when it first opened and maybe let these players see how tough cobrahn is without the help of bigger players. This is a chance for everyone who missed out to experience a real challenge and have alot of fun at the same time.

Also, I would like to bring up that some things would need to be nerfed down such as Lori. She was tweaked due to bigger players farming her. She should be moved downstairs.

If there is a CC, the quest will need to be modified for cob-only items and the lairs would need to be tuned down to be possible for the smaller player base that would be on this server.

I am very excited and looking forward to this hopefully soon. At the least give us some timeline as a basis for when to expect this.

Yes, for merlin it will be 2009

For everyone else (smile) it will be a couple questers in nork2 who will let you roll a "new" character into another world, then you will step through the portal and be that character. There will be an npc in that world that will release your slot for play in the current world. (Imagine it as a portal going back and forth).

I've almost ironed out all the issues with the new drakkar host engine on fedora core 6. There are a couple wierd reboot things still happening.

Will we come into the server already rested to 18, or will it be level 1 with experience to 18?

I stand by my assertion, and await it being proved, although I'll be playing a healer, that's where the fun's at.

Darge, barbs owned cob once sas and gk2 were added, they uberized the barb, especially with sas fur not having a lvl requirement, any level 18 barb could wear the fur and made cob 10x easier for them. But with no big characters around, you wont see anyone in sas for a while. Barbs are going to suck at first.

I don't need things recanted to me.

I know the evolution of barbs, and I know what they are capable of. I also know what other melee are capable of without a full set of their gear, and what they are capable of ability-wise.

I'm not here to argue my opinion, and as I said, I stand by it.

hmm, so is this something i should actually start being excited about Brad, or is it still an off in the horizon kind of thing?

I think it may be time to fire up my account again and start stress testing... hehe

Now do i want to be a pally or a healer...

maybe ill just reroll my barb and fm and make one of each to see how both perform before hand <G>

*Edit*

a few thought/questions/concerns, whatever you want to call em

1) gold hp, im hoping these dont carry over into ubercob

2) quirks? yes, no? hopefully they are out, but if they are in, then can we at least waive the gold and UGH bonuses, and give them to everyone at the same rate?

3) how long is this test server going to be active? a month, a year? until we kill all the lairs at least once?

4) i cant think of anything else right now, but i didnt feel like deleting the 4, so there!

Whats holding me back right now?

1 - The machine i installed to put it on keeps spontaneously rebooting
2 - I've got a couple things left on the process to create and save "fake" characters.

I'm torn between giving out experience, or putting some hidden questers that you have to "find" that will give you X experience one time (imagine the death crawls while your scoping out the location of such npcs).

Who knows, really logistics is all that remains. I'm trying to wackify_up the actual scenario a bit, (turn on full AI pathing, etc).. Also still debating on what an EAT is going to mean there.

Well...
Imo, putting a twist on things, without altering the attachment and nostalgia we have for what was/is cob, will encourage the most people to both explore there, and have a good time. "Come to savage cobrahn, to bug test for me!" will catch some flies, but I imagine "come to savage cobrahn where there's a twist!" might catch a few more. Show Shyamalan who's king <G>.

In terms of the future, realistically, this server would be a fantastic place to test alterations to drop rates, quest additions/reworkings and possibly more. No reason to let cob stagnate, and it might provide the opportunity to add a REALLY savage bite back into the scenario that allows for a very forgiving testing environment. Because of that, for the general population, the absolute hardest, punch-yourself-in-the-face content works best in cobrahn.

But hey, one thing at a time.
