Is that what this is about, just the way the game used to look with the 8 bit graphics?
yes

NOTE:-
These will be even smaller when looking at other players wearing them.

How could anyone prefer the new over the old?
We don't have anything against brown, bit I understood that 24 bit would be giving us MORE colours, not fewer.
The difference between the robes on the right requires some of us to use magnifying glasses!

We were happy with the old graphics, give them back to us.

Some words and phrases that come to mind:-
Vivid
Easily recognisable
Variation

PS Don't get me started about the rose where a sash should be!

Edit:- Lots of edits.

Yes flisk, that is what we want, the old 8bit was much clearer and "old skool". The player base of drakkar is for that type of game anyway, if we wanted fancy graphics and no gameplay we would go play WoW.

(on tea break from work short + blunt post)

I liked the 8 bit better as well. A few friends of mine even left the game when the new FE was pretty much required to progress. Still, Brad is only one person, and I'd prefer updated/debugged/expanded content over a haulover of the old FE to make it compatible with quirks/tiers/what not.

Incidentally, how is your new area of Aleria doing flisk?

I had an errrrrr late night last night, and did something for fun:

1) Save your current drakkar.exe
2) Download http://www1.drakkarzone.com/beta/drakfun.exe and copy it over your
drakkar.exe

Just for fun, i personally can't stand the 8 bit artwork anymore after seeing the 24bit, but for those who like it, something to play with.

Thank you this is really kool. I would call it a nice "start" towards a final 8bit fe <G> (if only it wasnt stretched) , and if you can do that in a night, what else is possible <WEG>

Couple small bugs, as cobra said cant see other players holding 24bit stuff, and the animation of fire tiles splits between 8 + 24 bit, also certain tiles dont show up :), all very minor things.

Im sure there are some unused 8bit graphics still out there, and im certain that the player community has a couple of good pixel artists taht will do some for free.

'Dumbing' 24 bit graphics down really wouldn't be too hard in most cases.

Also brad, new .exe is cool, but did you just resize the graphics? If so, a suggestion might be to merely expand them to 64x64 with empty space and have a smaller, yet non-jaggedy image.

Was taking a break from GDH area tonight, getting quest-fried-brain.

Check out the latest drakfun.exe. Check out the options page.

Enjoy, all you old farts,

Brad

Awesome brad. The toggle is nice, and the ability to see NL gear is nice as well! Still have issues with a few tiles missing in NL towns, but that's very minor.

Thanks for the work to bring back 8 bit for us old farts!

If you have the new drakkar.exe (drakfun renamed) put in the right place, it should simply be a matter of going to options: preferences, and selecting Legacy Artwork down at the bottom.
