Arrows

Post by Chimera »

i was just thinking. Bows dont need supplied arrows because there arent any that can be used. But i was thinking about something like adding Glowing, Silver, Proning, Non proning etc arrows. This would also add some more use to using a bow. It could also have ice, fire, poison damage or something. I still havent thought of where to put the arrows. Maybe you have to hold them in your left hand or use a item to equip to the sash. :D

That doesn't sound like a stupid idea, graphics already exist, arrows could even have some sort of defence value when held (as a shield) and as a quirk, charging with arrows in hand might produce some extra effects as dictated by the attributes of the particular arrows held.

Hmm must practice my English and shorten my sentences.

Arrows in diablo have no actual attack bonus or something, merlin, a better comparisation would be neverwinter nights.

dude, read the post.

Doro posted about an attack bonus in the second thread after mine. What Chimera described reminded me of diablo 2. Just because of holding the arrow's in the left hand, AND being able to put perfect gems into the socket bow to make poison, fire, ice and a few other usefull gems..

On a side note, I still stick to my post.
Oh, and merlin, I'd have said that if anyone posted it, I don't like you, but in case your thinking I'm just trying to disagree because you said it; I'm not, or i'd try harder.

Yes and no,

For ranged attacks, you have to have left hand free.

BUT

At skill 15 you can charge with a bow allowing for a shield in left hand (or arrows perhaps).

What a crazy idea!

I am still looking forward to the day when I see my bow actually blocking something
(skill15 and rising).

Always want to have a counter arguement in my back pocket . . .

Perhaps the arrows can be steel or even sprung steel?
Have the enemies bounce off your springy arrows!

Not sure how they would fly when shot from a bow though ho ho.

The true secret to arrows giving a defence ability is as follows:

The tradesmen of the world will start a new trend... a suit of aluminum-plated arrows!

The (not too thin)aluminum coating would prevent the wood inside the arrows from breaking under most blows, and aluminum is light! Whenever the player wanted to fire one off, all he'd have to do is tear off an arrow and let it fly!

This idea is so great that you'd have to be an idiot not to implement it. While you're at it, we should be able to hold orcs hostage and force them to give us piggy-back rides. We could push them to their physical limits, allowing us to travel twice as fast(until the orc died, but then we just get a new one!).

If you'd like to see my wonderful and ingenious ideas implemented, say so. We need your voice to persuade the sysops! You can make a difference!

If you disagree, take your high school diploma and shove it, you show off.

We make suggestions, Brad decides whether he implements it.
Making comments like the above will only antagonise, please stop.

The idea is novel, no more no less.
Many ideas suggested over the years have fallen on stoney ground, I see no reason that this shouldn't also fall on stoney ground.

Hell, we don't even get responses to our ideas.
Just how Brad decides there is enough public demand for an idea to be incoroporated into the game is beyond me.
We just keep trying for improvements (like correct the colour of the blasted floaties on the new FE).

We either suck it up or leave (guess who is on the point of leaving?).

You may well see Doro in the game, but not probably not being run by me any more.
Good for Brad (he still gets paid).
Good for me (I still have a presence in game).

The game has changed beyond recognition.
The majority love the NL scenario (so I am told), I do not.
Unfortunately refunds were not part of the deal.

Is it the character in the game that counts or the player behind the keyboard?

Ideas for KOD ... in effect you pile enough fertilizer onto Brad til new things spring up.

I am one of the biggest "NO!" people in this section of forums ... too few ideas have been thought out ...

I was amazed when I started playing Drakkar that one was allowed to use bow on hex ... every physical attack to bowman on hex should damage the bow :P ... as far as items in left hand having defensive properties: EVERYTHING including bare hand should have a rating ... I would put an arrow below bare hand ... hehe

But on to the topic at hand: I don't want a bow to be more than Ares intended ... something to do while the guy is running across the field towards you ... when he gets here you need a real weapon ... or the guy holding a real weapon has to protect you.

Ever wonder why heros don't use only bow? Because if they do, they are less than heroic.

I am still waiting for a decent pasta weapon that doesn't hit like a wet noodle ... let's get behind THAT!

The Lord of the Rings.

Legolas.

He didn't seem to have too many problems using a bow at close quarters.

But thats the difference between a bowman and an Archer.

I feel the whole arrow idea is pretty good but i think u need to find a better location for the arrows, cause last time i knew it took two hands to shoot an arrow, one to hold the bow the other to pull the string. But i think the idea is excellent.

Put in a npc that could "encrust" the arrows to the bow. The coding should be much easier as the bow would still be used the same, and brad wouldn't need to come up with a new place to put arrows. The arrows could be "encrusted" onto a basic bow (the way basic weapons in cob can be forged). The bow would simply break when out of arrows.

How does a bow work in real life?

You hold the bow in one hand, reach behind you (or wherever is convenient), pulling an arrow from a quiver, notch it, pull to the ear, and fire. Thus a bow requires two hands, both for notching and firing.

Just add a quiver to the FE.
Drag arrow from quiver into left hand.
Arrow in left hand is fired from bow.
Quiver emtpy? Better change weapons fast!

Interesting thought...could you fire two arrows for more damage, less accuracy?

Of course, this would most likely require a mod to the FE, which isn't too likely, me thinks.

Anyway, my two drachmas

Just a thought....

Why would you want to keep track of arrows? Having to buy more, running out when you are in a bind....

I think bows are pretty nice the way they are.. why change em?

Also, i think bow works kinda like a thrown weapon in drak. As for you guys addressing the 2h/left hand open issue.
