one handed weapon barbs

i know barbs are already over powered but i just thought about this and it strikes me as really wrong

if i was a barb and went insane with anger would i
A. use a sword and shield
or
B. drop the shield and pickup another sword ?

I've always pictured halberds as paladin weapons anyway. I think a barb would use a two-handed axe or maul rather than sword or halberd. More hack, slash and bash as opposed to actual skill and finesse. If anyone has ever been in a fight and lost their mind or seen this happen...not many look like Ali...more like Foreman :p

ever try to use a halberd in real life tho? it requires either

a) a good amount of finesse <paladins>

or

b) a WHOLE lot of strength <barbs>

however, even with a whole lot of strength, all you gonna really be able to do with it is swing it side to side, hehe

well, for my input however insightful it may be <G>
i say 1-handed weapons are a waste for barbs. however ls does more damage for the best weapon in nork which makes sense for barb in nork to use ls, not to mention the pgear aspect gs only has the uber gs *mega lair*. to me greatsword and halberd would be the only way to go as barb and gee. look the giant king only has those 2 weapons for barbs only. it makes sense. granted tree trunk swinging would be fun but you'd have to get some kind of grip or attachment process goin on and that'd be too confusing for them silly barbs. there should be a forged maul of some sort or other for a freaking huge bulky blunt object that just has insane cstun rate from bludgeoning people down 4 times in a round. yeah a tree stump would be evil but it's just too akward for combat ^_^. i figure barbs should always be 2-handed class or be able to dual wield or something. ie drop shield and grab another sword. or blood thirst bonus for holding a corpse or something fun. ments have magic items to hold ie uzi that have offhand adds. barbs using 1-handed weapons should be able to do the same thing but have a high level req on it for the power of the item like say a ever pouring gauntlet of blood to quench the thirst that's +5 hp a round like a barb version of the uzi. shields against latter end of nork are just pointless on barb. they'd either deflect, take nominal to 0 dmg or block. the offchance something worthy of doing damage even being blocked by a nork shield is slim to none, ie wardens, hag, uther, NL lairs. and maybe a +5 hp regen ammy for non-psi only. thieves would love this. the damage taken from the occasional/frequent loss of hide would simply be restored. and p-ammy isn't needed when you're wearing a neutral hat with poison abs anyway. oh well just my 2 cents

My feelings are that either a Longsword, or it's variant- the Basterdsword, and a ahield would be the items of preferance of a Barbarian. But my opinons are more based upon real life historical fact than fictional fantasy. Historicaly, the word Bezrerk comes from the Vikings. theywere definately Longsword ( and nore specificly Basterdsword) and shield ( and again, specificly a Kite shield) users. I might also add, that hose who suggested that a Barb would drop their sword, and bash their opponents with their shield when they went Berzerk, are actualy right. Most accounts i have read describeing a Viking "going Berzerk", usualy state that they would throw down their weapons and charge into the midst of the enemy, and cause all sorts of havoc and disruption as they attacked with whatever they could grab, or still managed to have in hand. Oh well, there just me opinons!!!
