Oh, it was by the hour alright! A couple different rates, depending on how you connected. It was either about $4.00 or about $2.00. That was a big discount off the Island of Kesmai rates on Compuserve, the lowest of which was $6.30 an hour. More than a few people racked up $1000+ months.

I think VT is out for the same reason, though it starts to get a little bit harder to just wander there. But it could happen. I do think Frore would be the best place to do that kind of thing. Yeah, that happened to me the first 2 times I tried to solo it. I think it can find IH's from the other crits when it roams out of it's lair also. I eventually got enough skill to kill it more quickly, and have soloed it twice.

The portal in that room does lead to the tower that has the stairs down to the acid caves.
It's the other way to the acid caves without having to use grenades or door disc. Quite a bit tougher though.

Maeling and VT were not part of original game either. The Naga used to be accessible by just walking through N-4 and going through a secret door into the lair. That's the wall you see at north side of Naga lair when you go in there. There was no need for a figurine. The prison mino was there though....

I wish there was a chronology! My memory for things like that has never been good.
The old vnotes were always a fun read, but the dates on them were always a made up date, if I remember correctly. (uhoh)

If you're seriously considering Roc altar as being a part of this quest, you need to know the N-5 secret area was not in the game at the beginning.

Hidden altar hmmm? Well, if I was looking for a hidden altar in the water, I suppose I'd start either northeast of yeti island or southwest. Looking at the Nork map, those areas would seem to complete a circle. I wonder if there are any messages you get in any of the water hexes?

If you can't scry a FF crit, can you scry a stoned player crit? Get a trash crit stoned, throw the figurine over and scry the player then. I suppose the stoned crit could take a screen shot themselves. Could have the charmed FF crit take the figurine over perhaps. If STF doesn't work from a distance...
