Are you using a wireless router/LAN connection?
It sounds like your connection is timing out for some reason.
You can try deleting the drakkar.prm file but I don't think this will solve your issue, as it sounds like a local PC issue.

make sure you are admin when running the game. Can also try installing to different directory instead of default.
